Letting Go

Little by little, layer by layer. Bit by bit. Moment by moment.

Releasing the grip. Forgiving the thing. Forgiving them too.

Feeling the feelings.  Crying the tears. Angry and sullen.

The day set in grey.  The sun tucked away.  Reprieve feels far away.

The burden too great.  The moment too heavy.  The way forward unknown.

We lift our hands.  We worship the King.  We sacrifice our need.

Letting go is like peeling an onion.  One layer at a time.  When a feeling comes to the surface, acknowledge it then let it go.  If a moment feels too heavy to bear, open your hands and release your grip.  If the way forward feels foreign or unknown trust in the one who can see beyond our selves.  Pray, and if that feels like too much then set quietly before him; he has the words we sometimes don’t.  Read, even if the words jumble on the page and mix with your tears.  Sing, if the words fail then listen to the song and let it soak in like a salve.  Lastly, eat and nap; even prophets needed nourishment and rest.  When you do, something begins to happen within the heart of ourselves.

A subtle shift. The load lifts.  We raise our head.

The clouds part.  Sun on our face.  Relief floods our soul.

The way forward unknown.  Hope feels small.  Our trust in him.

We lift our hands.  We worship the King.  We sacrifice our need.

Releasing the grip. Forgiving the thing. Forgiving them too.

Little by little, layer by layer. Bit by bit. Moment by moment.

We let go.
